How we can help you

Within the advisory service, corporate finance refers to advising companies on financial issues related to their operations, growth, financing, and strategic decision-making. Our goal is to assist companies in making key financial decisions that can increase their value and enable them to realize their strategies.

Our corporate finance advisors assist your company in executing mergers and acquisitions. This includes identifying suitable acquisition candidates or buyers, performing due diligence (thorough investigation into the financial and legal situation), and advising on the financial structure of the transaction. The objective is to ensure that the transaction is successful and adds value for the parties involved.

Due diligence
Due diligence in the context of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) refers to the thorough investigation and evaluation carried out before an acquisition or merger is finalized. The purpose of due diligence is to ensure full transparency regarding the financial, legal, operational, and commercial situation of the target company (the company being acquired or merged), so that the buyer can make a well-informed decision.

Business valuation
Business valuation involves our financial experts determining the economic value of your company or a part of it. An accurate valuation is crucial for mergers, acquisitions, share issues, or investment rounds. We help you accurately determine the value of a company or assets. Thanks to the academically substantiated valuation tool that HLB Belgium developed in collaboration with the University of Antwerp, you will receive a professional and reliable valuation report.

Matching
The process of identifying and aligning suitable acquisition candidates or merger partners based on strategic, financial, and operational criteria. The goal of our matching is to find companies that are a good fit for each other, so that the transaction creates value for both parties. The process can involve various aspects, such as business goals, culture, markets, and synergies.

Succession planning
Succession planning refers to the process of preparing for the transfer of leadership, ownership, or control within a company. The goal is to guarantee a smooth transition, maintain the continuity of your organization, and ensure that the right management is in the right place so that daily operations remain undisturbed. This also includes managing personnel issues, optimizing tax and legal structures, and strengthening stakeholder confidence. Well-executed succession planning helps avoid conflicts, increase the value of the transaction, and position your company firmly for the future.

Did you know that you cannot simply start a fraud investigation within your company? For this, your internal affairs must first be in order! As a company, you must have the necessary policies in place that allow such an investigation. For example, the employer has the right to warehouse access control (CCTV), access to mailboxes, etc.

HLB acts as an outsourced internal reporting channel. Did you know that 50% of all fraud is discovered through an internal report?

HLB has developed a tool for this that facilitates companies in easily setting up an internal reporting channel (which is legally required for companies with 50 or more employees). Within HLB, a person is designated who is responsible for the management and follow-up of various reports of suspected fraud voiced by employees via the aforementioned internal reporting channel. Want to know more? Please contact Patrick Van Impe.

After a report is received, and if the company’s internal policies allow it, the fraud investigation begins.

A forensic audit or fraud investigation is a detailed and systematic examination of an organization’s financial data to detect and prove fraud, abuse, corruption, or other illegal activities. The purpose of a forensic audit is to gather evidence that can be used in legal proceedings, such as lawsuits or criminal prosecutions. This type of audit focuses on identifying suspicious transactions, analyzing financial documents, and reconstructing events that may indicate fraud. Forensic auditors use specialized techniques and tools to discover hidden irregularities, such as forgeries, embezzlement, money laundering, or other forms of financial abuse.

With Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), companies can contribute to creating a sustainable and inclusive future. Curious about what this means for you?

Our HLB experts assist you in setting up sustainability reports and ensuring that your company complies with legislation. The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive is a directive at the heart of the Green Deal, aimed at ensuring greater transparency and better quality of sustainability information from organizations.

Is your organization not required to prepare a sustainability report according to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) or the Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for SMEs (VSME), but would you like to do so anyway? Then you are very welcome at HLB.
